A Museum in Washington banned the video of a gay artist after protests from conservatives and activists.
The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington banned the video of the artist David Wojnarowicz, called “Fire In My Belly“.
David Wojnarowicz, which died 1992 because of Aids, wanted to clarify the suffering of people with Aids. In his video, he shows a cruzifix, blotched with ants. The assortment of 150 pictures shows pictures of the artist from 1973 till 1988, the year he made his famous selfportrait, careworn of his disease. Mapplethorpe died in March 1989 in Boston of the aftermath of his HIV-Infection.
